Story
I'm taking part in the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival 2017 to honour a promise I made to my dear friend Kristen Keegan. In early August 2016, shortly after she was diagnosed with brain cancer, I promised Kristen that I would run the Sydney Marathon 2017 for her and together we would raise much needed funds for the Mark Hughes Foundation.
The Mark Hughes Foundation raises funds to for research, promotes awareness, and supports brain cancer patients through a dedicated Brain Cancer Care Coordinator.
Running a marathon is a big challenge, but it is nothing compared to fighting brain cancer. When I made my promise to Kristen, I told her that I needed her there to make her trademark cheeky comments to encourage me. I am devastated that she will not be there, however I remain more determined than ever to do her proud.

Mark Hughes Foundation (Hunter Medical Research Institute)
The Mark Hughes Foundation (MHF) is a not for profit organisation formed in Newcastle by Mark and Kirralee Hughes following Marks diagnosis with Brain Cancer in 2013. Mark is a well known and highly respected former Newcastle Knights Rugby League player, business and community identity who is undergoing treatment to fight brain cancer. The Mark Hughes Foundation has been formed to raise much needed funds to fund brain cancer research, heighten awareness and support brain cancer patients and their families within the community.
